Organizers reported 9,000 attendees, including close to 3,000 buyers, and 2,300 exhibiting companies taking part, making it the largest event industry trade show to take place since the start of the Covid pandemic. IMEX America 2021 reported a total of 8,605 attendees, itbm world 2021 reported 7,000 reported attendees.

April 22 is Earth Day, a time for those in our industry to consider the substantial environmental impact of holding meetings, conventions, and trade shows. Lyft says it’s committed to 100-percent electric vehicles on its platform by the end of 2030. Efforts large and small are helping move the industry in a common direction.

The Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi has announced its goal to attract three million business visitors by 2021. According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization, the GCC will attract 195 million visitors per year by 2030 – this is above the global average for any region. Huge success is forecast.

For the 2021 edition, the ShipCon organisers decided to spread the two-day event into a two-week online conference, incorporating gaming elements. For example, the question this time will be, ‘What would your event of the future look like using gamification in 2030?’ One of the tools used was ‘The Sopranos’.
