Over the last five years I’ve heard increasing concern from the meeting professionals community about the deterioration of the quality of our national industry conferences. I’ll illustrate with the area where I have most experience: providing education at these meetings.
There were more international associationmeetings than ever last year, but on average the meetings had fewer participants, reports the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA). Over the same time period, the number of meetings per year has doubled, from just under 6,000 to more than 12,000 in 2016.

International meetings, conventions, and other business events are melting pots. So many of our communities are like that now — from Burning Man to biker meet-ups to book groups.
