I recently ran a workshop , hosted by the Manitoba Chapter of the Canadian Society of Association Professionals (CSAE), on the design of participation-rich events. Here are the lessons I learned from this online workshop. [Note: This event was a workshop , not a presentation. Sessions are often advertised as “workshops” that aren’t.
Events need marketing. This is a fact. Attendees need to know when the event will happen, who’s speaking, and it all has to sound like an amazing time. But how can event marketing actually boost attendance and revenue? Also, what’s the best way for organizers to connect with attendees when there are so many different types of content and media channels?
We tend to think of event sustainability in terms of large, sweeping efforts that require big budgets and run the risk of disrupting the attendee experience. But there are smaller eco-friendly tweaks to be made that have the potential to add up to big change—all while upholding, or even enhancing, the experience. And the growing number of attendees who not only accept, but embrace, thoughtful, eco-driven event modifications are making the process that much smoother.
