The deficiencies of meeting planning textbooks and education. Such textbooks barely mention the essence of a meeting: what has to happen to achieve clearly defined meeting objectives and outcomes? They assume that meetings will consist of sessions with speakers on a stage. Sadly, few clients know any better.
In a nutshell, I think that our industry associations have become too focused on justifying their continued existence financially, and are neglecting their core mission of supporting and representing their members and association meeting attendees.
